Is Niagara Falls a Wonder of the World?
Table of Contents
Nearly 12 million visitors visit Niagara Falls every year – most of them naively assuming that they are visiting a wonder of the world! To their [and your] surprise, Niagara Falls is NOT a wonder of the world, though many feel that it should be [and for the right reasons]. Here, we try to bust some of the myths about Niagara Falls being a natural wonder, and present a case to make it one!
Is Niagara Falls a Wonder of the World?
Logically, the question ‘is Niagara Falls a wonder of the world?’ should be preceded by, ‘is there an official list of wonders of the world?’. You’d be surprised to know the answer to be a ‘No’. Yes, you read it right! There is NO official list of wonders of the world. It is just a classic list dating back to early ancient Greece.
Now, let’s get back to our main question, and explore whether Niagara Falls is a wonder of the world. The answer, again, is a No! Niagara Falls doesn’t even find a mention in the unofficial list of seven wonders of the world, let alone the official one [if there would be any]. Feeling like the world being cruel towards the majestic beauty of Niagara Falls. Well, that’s what the world is like – not appreciating the beauty in its heydays.

Is Niagara Falls 8th Wonder of the World?
Partly yes, partly no. Confused? Let’s elaborate this to make it simple. The ‘yes’ part of the answer comes from the fact that many treat Niagara Falls as ‘honorary’ 8th wonder of the world. The ‘no’ part of the answer stems from the fact that ‘honorary’ is not equivalent to ‘official’. However, given its endless Oh-Wows, a case can be made to declare Niagara Falls as the 8th wonder of the world. Its massive display of water flow at Bridal Veil Falls, Horseshoe Falls, and American Falls with an average of 2,400,000 to 3,150,000 gallons of water falls per minute is enough to make it the 8th wonder of the world. As you see the majestic views water of the Great Lakes travels over these falls to the Niagara River – you’d be convinced of Niagara Falls being a fit candidate to be the 8th wonder.
Shouldn’t we start a petition? We would love to see it on the Natural Wonders List, isn’t it? Not sure whether to canvass for this cause? Come and see for yourself what we mean when we claim it should be declared the 8th wonder of the world! Join our Niagara Falls, Canada and Niagara Falls, USA tours exclusively designed for small groups and see it all at a special price with your travel-folks! Sidenote: For those who don’t know, Niagara Falls has two sides, one each in Canada and the United States.
