What is Art Deco?

Art Deco

So what is Art Deco? Dating back to the 1920’s Art Deco is an artistic movement that reached its peak during the Great Depression, a time when Americans were seeking an architectural style that could lift the mood of the United States.

Art Deco buildings are centered on basic geometric shapes characterized by their heavy ornamentation serving more decorative than functional purposes. It is typical to see terrazzo floors, tropical and pastel colors, and neon lighting among other famous characteristics of Miami’s Art Deco style.
